Confirm the right to give notice
Read the term, break clause and notice provisions first. There is no universal one-month notice period for every Hong Kong tenancy. A proposed move-out date must not be confused with an agreed or contractually effective termination date.

Keep proof of service
Retain the actual notice and the relevant delivery record. A read receipt or an acknowledgement of a proposed appointment may not prove that a specified contractual service method was followed. Check the recipient and address before sending from overseas.
Handover checklist
- Photograph the condition and compare the inventory.
- Record meter readings, keys and access devices.
- Separate agreed payments from disputed deductions.
- Keep an acknowledgement stating exactly what was handed over or agreed.

What service evidence should I keep for a WhatsApp notice?
Check the agreement’s method, recipient, address and effective-service requirements first; a read receipt alone does not establish a valid notice. Retain the full notice, sending time, contact number, delivery information, reply and any required postal or other proof. A registered-post receipt and a screenshot have different limits. This checklist does not prescribe service of court documents.
Does the notice period start when I send the message?
Separate the earliest permitted notice date, effective service date, required period and permitted end date. Check the wording for restrictions or a full-period requirement instead of automatically adding one month to the sending date. Resolve disputed dates before committing to handover.
